Katla Marín Stefánsdóttir, a MA student of clinical psychology, is exhibiting artwork consisting of the macramé technique including macramé wallhangings of various sizes and shapes. All the artworks hang from branches of poplars growing in Iceland and all are knotted from recycled cotton.

The art of macramé consists of knotted threads that give form to art objects or usable things. Macramé is an old textile method that has in recent times become increasingly popular. It is made of few basic knots that make it possible to form all kind of things, from simple glass coasters to large and detailed wallhangings.

The art of macramé has a long history which originates from 14th centuri Arabia. It can be used to adorn the home, for example by a wallhanging or a hanging for potted flowers but also other things for other different purposes or value.

A person who knows how to use the basic knots can make almost anything.

It can be amusing to let the imagination be in charge as the possibilities are almost unlimited. The macramé method can create beautiful artwork and while making things this way, the mind can be at ease it is creative and it can enchant mindfulness.

Monday 17th of January at 17:00, Katla Marín will lead a presentation of macramé, where she will show how to make the basic knots and suggest where to start if people are interested in the making of macramé.
