Friday June 2nd at 6-9 p.m., we invite guests to take a peak behind the scenes at the museum, as we work on the installation of our new exhibitions, opening June 10th at 2 p.m. On the one hand, it is the exhibition On a Sea of Tranquillity, with works by Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson, and, on the other hand, it is the exhibition Hesitant Line by Elísabet Brynhildardóttir. The museum's experts will greet guests and offer insights into the process of making an exhibition, but guests will also have the opportunity to design their own exhibition, using a model of the main gallery of Hafnarborg.

The museum is now celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of Hafnarborg. On June 1st 1983, husband and wife Sverrir Magnússon and Ingibjörg Sigurjónsdóttir gifted the town of Hafnarfjörður with their house at Strandgata 34, including their extensive art collection, establishing Hafnarborg – the Hafnarfjörður Centre of Culture and Fine Art. On this occasion, we invite you to join us for cake and festivities, as we will also present memorabilia from the early years of the museum, which are usually kept in storage and are rarely seen by anyone outside the museum.

This event is a part of the festival Bright Days (Bjartir dagar) in Hafnarfjörður, beginning on June 1st, marking the 115th anniversary of the town. This year, the festival itself celebrates its 20th anniversary, but it is now customary for Hafnarfjörður's museums, artist studios and shops to be open during the evening of the first Friday after it starts. The purpose of the festival is to reflect and promote the rich cultural landscape of the town of Hafnarfjörður.

Free entry – everyone welcome.
