Margrét Jónsdóttir‘s exhibition, AboveBeyond, will be on display all summer in Reykjavík City Library Spöngin. The show consists of Margrét’s furniture and personal belongings which she has moved into the gallery as well as various paintings.

Margrét works with and transforms emotions, environments and experiences into a unique form of visual art. Her art has a rich subtext, both obvious and subtle, which often evolves into something completely unexpected. All of it meshes together, layer upon layer, until it all comes together in patterns and from the chaos, beauty is born.
Margrét is a Reykjavík native and has been working with art for 50 years without pause. For the duration of her career she has taught art in elementary and middle schools, as well as at the Kópavogur Art School. Margrét has also hosted water coloring classes in France, worked in graphic design and she managed an advertising company. Margrét has a degree in free form visual art and graphic design from the Icelandic School of Visual Art (now a part of LHÍ). She has a Master’s degree from Central Saint Martin‘s College of Art, and completed her post-graduate studies at Kennaraháskóli Íslands.
Margrét has hosted over 40 private exhibitions and cohosted many exhibitions with other artists, both in Iceland and abroad. She is one of the founders of Gallery Suðurgata 7, which is an important center for the development of avant-garde art in Iceland. She is also one of the founders of Hagsmunafélag Myndlistamanna and SÍM (Association of Icelandic Artists). Margrét‘s numerous works are present in Iceland‘s most prestigious Art Museums, and she has received numerous grants from the Icelandic government. Margrét is a member of FÍM, The Icelandic Printmakers Association, SÍM, The Living Art Museum and she is an honorary member of FÍMK.
