Elding Whale Watching

The original whale watching family in Reykjavik

Whale watching from Reykjavik is operated all year round with the high season being from April – October.

Your Classic 3 hour whale watching trip starts at Reykjavik old harbor where you get your ticket at the red Elding ticket and information booth (follow the red flags!).

As soon as you have your ticket, you’ll head down to our Whale Watching Centre a Floating Museum with real whale skeletons, teeth, baleen plates and much more. There you will also find Iceland's only floating souvenir shop and café.

At the Whale Watching Centre, our guide will welcome you and show you to Eldey, our whale watching boat which stands for safety and comfort. Our boats are family friendly with indoor and outdoor viewing areas as well as comfortable seating.

During the 3 hour tour, we look out for minke whales along with white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises, and humpback whales. Sightings of killer whales are also possible but they are rare.

On board we have highly trained guides with microphones, that point out sightings — so you’ll miss nothing. The guides also give expert information about the whales and the Faxa Bay view. In good weather, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Snæfell glacier (Snæfellsjökull) and other breathtaking mountain landscapes and a spectacular view of Reykjavik and Harpa concert hall.
