Songs in the bosom of the flute is the title of a concert in the 15:15 concert series at the Nordic House in Reykjavik on Sunday 30th November at 15:15. The soprano Hlín Pétursdóttir Behrens, flutist Pamela de Sensi and pianist Eva Þyri Hilmarsdóttir will perform a program of mainly French music, but also music by composers from Switzerland and the United States, with music by Lili Boulanger, Cécile Cheminade, Maurice Ravel, André Caplet, André Previn, Frank Martin, Francis Poulenc and Luigi Cortese.
The flute is as well as the voice, one of the oldest instruments of mankind. It connects us to nature and the world of myths and tales. The flute was and still is often a part of smaller instrumental groups and orchestras, but was revitalized as a solo instrument in the days of the French Impressionists and remains so into the 21st century. The program is dreamlike, but humorous at the same time. It takes us from the fantasies of thousand and one night to the history and ancient love poems from Persia and love poems that are closer to us in time. At the beginning of Advent the program includes also a story tail of Christmas in three sections and a Christmas song of very unrealistic Christmas wishes from the first half of the twentieth century.
