Annual Events

Reykjavík is already famous for its vibrant culture and nightlife, but certain occasions are particularly special.
The city of Reykjavík and its neighbouring towns host numerous festivals throughout the year, including Culture Night in August, the Winter Lights festival in February and the Festival of the Sea in June.

 | Young Art Festival November 5th -13th 2010 Unglist, the art festival of young people, has been an annual event in Reykjavik since 1992. This festival week is packed with a multitude of performers and spectators. The program consists of music, design, fashion, photography, paintings and theatre. The festival reflects current trends in young people’s art. Young art’s main purpose is to give all culture’s dark corners a chance to shine in the public spotlight. www.unglist.is |
 | Sequences October 31st – November 7th 2009 Sequences is a real-time art festival with a focus on urban and public spaces. Its emphasis is on time-based work, performance, sound art, video and music. www.sequences.is |
| | Photographic Poems November 2010 Photographic Poems is a short documentary film contest held every autumn in Reykjavík. Young people from 15-25 years old are encouraged to submit their works. Normally there are two competitions: a shortfilm contest and Pitch-your-film contest. A third competition was held for the first time in 2009 with a great success, a film script contest. Notable Icelandic filmmakers, screenwriters and professionals from the film industry judge every competition individually. |
