Annual Events

Reykjavík is already famous for its vibrant culture and nightlife, but certain occasions are particularly special.
The city of Reykjavík and its neighbouring towns host numerous festivals throughout the year, including Culture Night in August, the Winter Lights festival in February and the Festival of the Sea in June.

 | Innipukinn Festival July 30th - August 1st 2010. Innipúkinn is an annual music festival, held in Reykjavík on this bank holiday weekend. Past guests include; Cat Power, Blonde Redhead, Mugison, Raveonnettes, Hjálmar, Trabant, Seabear, Jonathan Ritchman, Mínus, Dikta,FM Belfast, Televison + many more.

| Reykjavík Gay Pride August 5th - 8th 2010 This colourful event brings tens of thousands of people into the city centre every year, to show solidarity and to have fun with the gay community in Reykjavik. Gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people, friends, relatives, a fast growing number of tourists and the general public; all come together to celebrate and support human rights for all. http://www.gaypride.is/

Rally Reykjavik - 31st International Icelandic Rally, 12th - 14th August 2010 Rally Reykjavik 2010 is scheduled to have the same general structure as the 2009 event had. We will stick to the Reykjanes peninsula and Borgarfjordur areas, with some new stages and some changes to the stages last year. The event details are going to be published in the near future, but, the 2010 event promises to be even more challenging that the 2009 one was. The organisers have decided to run an alternative fuel classes in the 2010 event. It has also been decided that electric only cars, can compete in a reduced length, special stage, rally - quite possibly for the first time.

 | Reykjavík Jazz Festival August 14th - 29th 2010 The annual Reykjavik Jazz Festival is an increasingly prestigious event on the international jazz scene. Reykjavik Marathon August 21st 2010 This annual event involves thousands of participants from Iceland and abroad. Marathon proper, half marathon and the so-called "Fun Run". The official programme starts at noon and ends in the late evening. www.marathon.is

 | Tango Festival August 25th -29th 2010 The tango festival TANGO ON ICEland has been growing over the years and features internationally famous dance teachers. The Tango festival offers workshops, tango bands and a tangoDJ, tango shows and Milonga until daybreak. www.tango.is

| artFart August 5th - 22nd 2010 artFart is a performance art festival that takes place every year in August. It started in the year 2006 and is now its fifth year. Presenting work that may otherwise remain massively underrepresented in this country, artFart provides artists, at all stages of their career with a platform from which they can present innovative and experimental approaches to contemporary performance on an international stage. Every August, artFart takes up residence in theatres, galleries and alternative spaces across Reykjavik, and presents a three-week programme of performance events that provide a space for artists, and audience, to come together and celebrate contemporary performance in Iceland.
