Reykjavik Literally - A Guided Walking Tour in English

Reykjavík City Library hosts a walking tour in downtown Reykjavík where Icelandic literature, from the Saga period to newly published books, is introduced. An actor, Darren Foreman, performs bits from novels, short stories and plays and recites poems. Guests also learn about the authors and the connection between text and place, with a bit of history mixed in. One of the stops is the old theatre Idno by the Reykjavík Lake Tjörnin. This is a fun introduction to Icelandic literature and the downtown area at an easy pace that suits everyone.

The walk can be booked for groups all year round. Minimum group size is 10 people and the cost is 20.000 ISK pr. group.

“I wasn’t very convinced, it was my boyfriend who wanted to join you, and then I loved it. Thank you very much!! Such a special tour! Really original. “

“Original. And passionate.”

“Very interesting” Nice to relate the stories to the city context, as well as being read in an interesting and good way!”

“Really enjoyable; stories really fun, friendly guides!”

“Very enjoyable! Darren did a great job dramatizing the literature. I also enjoyed the commentary. A delightful time.”

"I take the time to write you this compliment about the Reykjavík literary walking tour because I think it's something unique in Reykjaviík - indeed, I've never seen it anywhere else - and I think it's one of the best ways to discover Icelandic culture. I was so amazed after this tour that I thought I had to do something to get a better knowledge of Icelandic culture, so there I am now, back in Montréal, learning your language; only in optic to be able to read all those chef d'oeuvres that you've presented us during this pure happiness instant."
