Reykjavík Arts Festival 40th Anniversary
12 May – 5 June 2010
The year 2010 is a big year for the Reykjavik Arts Festival as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. From the very first festival in 1970, it has always stayed true to its original goal of offering the best of the Icelandic and international art scene.
The Reykjavík Arts Festival is one of the oldest and most respected arts festivals in Northern Europe. It has become a harbinger of spring, bringing joy and delight to Iceland’s residents and their guests in May each year. The Festival is recognised as a premiere venue for outstanding Icelandic and international artists and takes pride in its unique focus on all artistic disciplines – theatre, dance, music, literature and visual arts.
This year´s programme offers a varied and colourful blend of big and small events. Festival guests will have the opportunity to attend concerts and readings in artists’ studios and writers’ own homes, as well as enjoying exceptional acts and performances on the city‘s big stages. This year, photography is in the Festival spotlight, with numerous international and Icelandic photo exhibitions.
